Caught Sleeping: Book no.2 of The Senator’s Wife Series by Jen Lyon

on

“Caught Sleeping” is book number two of Jen Lyon’s “The Senator’s Wife” series following Alex and Catharine’s secret age gap lesbian romance from book number one from the series “The Senator’s Wife”.

Please be aware it has domestic violence content. If you don’t like it in a book, be warned.

Alex Grey is doing great, she is playing for the Sirens and has great team mates and friends like Amelia Walker, Erin Halsey, while Caleb has a blatant disregard of Alex in all his behaviors and even gets involved with the annoying and always jealous teamate, Monica Ashby.

Catharine Brooks still Cleveland asked her husband, senator Carlton, for a divorce and they have a one year deal to still stay married until his campaign is over, yet he is a real villain and gets abusive and becomes an undignified/despicable human being.

As much as we expect the love between Catharine and Alex to go smooth, it doesn’t.

There are more down’s than up’s in their relationship and more than one turning points in the plot and everything becomes chaotic and the story becomes even more interesting by revealing secrets and disrupting lives.

The first turning point comes fast, at the beginning of the book, and brings a lot of angst in the main characters’ lives, when Carlton manages to ruin Catherine and Alex’s relationship and they break up, leaving a broken hearted Catharine unknowingly why.

Alex felt like she lost a part of herself after losing Catherine and after she finds out about Carlton’s abuse, but soccer and a surprisingly Amelia help her move on. She manages even to fulfill her lifetime dream and play for the US Female National Soccer Team at the World Cup in the UK.

Nathalie helps Catherine to get through Alex’s leaving and after a miraculously development, she has the means to escape Carlton’s iron fist.

She has a lot of courage to do so, especially when Carlton is running for president.

Carlton running for president becomes more vulnerable to any media scandal that of course, will degenerate, which seems to be worse for Catharine than it is for him, thus he never suspects her.

While hell breaks loose and Carlton is furious on the anonymous source who did it to him, Catherine’s WorldCargo corporation is, also, involved in the scandal and Catherine’s father will betray her, as expected.

Her only consolation is Alex by her side, even if Alex’s life is also turned upside down, as the whole world finds out about their relationship.

The plot is realistic and credible, involving betrayal, blackmails, fake politicians, political intrigues, revealing secrets that could destroy both the main characters’ lives.

Alex is more mature now, she is not the shy, introvert Catherine first met, she is freely loving Catharine and so supportive and sweet, all the while Catharine’s power persona comes to light, knowing that she could lose everything, but still have Alex, gives her so much comfort and strength to come forward and un-mask the undignified senator Cleveland.

I liked a lot their adoring stolen moments, like the one when Alex fell asleep next to Catharine and missed breakfast with her team.

I loved how much the author knows about soccer and I enjoyed very much the Female Soccer World Cup in the UK.

I was so amused by Catherine being in that bar in London watching Alex play and her interaction with other customers and then Catherine being present on Wembley stadium at the final of much the Female Soccer World Cup in the UK cheering up for Alex.

I enjoyed the side characters like: Halsey, Amelia, Halsey’s aunt Clancy, Sam Huntley (former famous female soccer star)

I really liked the development of the plot, the exquisite language the author used to express the character’s inner voices and emotions and the way love always wins.

Kudos to Jen Lyon for writing this great series, not your average lesbian age gap romance, but an awesome build plot with amazing characters.

Thus, I totally recommend The Senator’s Wife” series by Jen Lyon and I cannot wait for book no.3.
